Drink This!
One of our favorite wines to drink in the summer is Viognier. It is a white grape varietal known originally in the Northern Rhône region of Condrieu, France, but has gained popularity now around the world. We are big fans of Viognier particularly from the California’s Central Coast and like we said, it’s wonderful to drink this wine on a nice sunny afternoon.
We recently stopped in a great wine bar in Claremont, Ca, called Packing House Wine Merchants and ordered a glass of the 2010 Vogelzang Happy Canyon “Birdsong” Viognier and we were hooked from the first sip. Delicious! Flavors of lychee, pear, white peach, apricot, herbs and spice. It’s big and focused, but it also has a nice structure to it that balanced everything out, making the wine not too heavy.
So, if you are a fan of Viognier (or even if you’ve never had it), look for this one…you’ll be glad you did!
Cheers!
