We once read…”Burgundy and its wines are legendary in the wine world. Many a connoisseur will confidently declare that no other red wine in the world can beat the complexity, fullness, and style of a great Pinot Noir from the Côte de Nuits.”
Burgundy has always had a very high reputation in the wine world for its superb Pinot Noir, but we tend drink the majority of this varietal from California producers. We have had our share of some amazing wines from Burgundy, but they typically came with a high price tag. We found that this 2009 Domaine Faiveley Nuits-Saint-Georges wasn’t too expensive and pleased our California palettes. The nose of this feminine wine is beautiful. If you were doing a blind tasting and took a big whiff from the glass, you would definitely know you’re smelling a wine from western Europe. Right away we picked up the aromatic berry fruit, dried flowers, coffee and a hint of orange rind. Medium bodied in the mouth with nice tart red fruit, earth, spice, and mineral flavors. Also, pleasant acidity that gave this wine some good structure. This wine has a great energy about it and is showing very nicely.
So, if you’re like us and enjoy drinking Pinot Noir from California but want to explore Pinot Noir from Burgundy without breaking the bank…give this one a whirl.
