Rutherford, Ca.

On our last trip to Napa Valley, Elizabeth Spencer Wines was on our agenda of a place to check out.

Our first introduction to Elizabeth Spencer Wines was recommended at one of our local wines shops in L.A., Greenblatt’s Deli & Fine Wine Shop. We often stop here to pick up a bottle of wine to have with dinner. They always have a great selection of wines and many times they are ones we haven’t tried before. Besides the wine shop, we had read about Elizabeth Spencer in our go-to book, Romantic Napa Valley by Autumn Millhouse.

This place is cute and quaint but the wines are huge! We enjoyed a lovely afternoon here. What use to be the former Rutherford post office, Elizabeth Spencer’s tasting room is a simple brick building that has been renovated and also has an amazing patio for your wine tasting pleasure. The patio is very charming, a place you can easily spend a whole afternoon at. Filled with cozy outdoor lounge furniture, market umbrellas and shaded cabanas, a feeling of an outdoor oasis.

On this visit we were fortunate enough to meet the winemaker, Spencer Graham. He was hanging out on the patio and mingling amidst all the visitors. He was very personable, even pulled out a photo scrapbook of the winery renovations.

In addition to the atmosphere here, we truly just loved their wines. In true Napa style, their Chardonnay’s are rich and creamy and their Cabernet’s are aromatic and big…yet balanced.

Raise your glass and savor the flavors!

Cheers!
