St. Helena, Ca.

One of our favorite drives while in Napa Valley is the gorgeous Silverado Trail. We recently discovered a nice little winery on the trail that is definitely worth checking out, Failla Wines. The pronunciation is “Fay-la.” This place has so much charm and character. The tasting room is situated in a cozy little cottage house tucked away from the main road. It has the feeling of being in a cabin with wood planked walls and a cobblestone fireplace. Tastings at Failla are by appointment so call ahead. As you drive down the Silverado Trail, the only sign of Failla is their big red mailbox with their name and address on it along the road. We were welcomed to our tasting by a friendly staff member who brought us inside and told us to make ourselves at home. We did just that! We relaxed in plush, comfortable furniture as we sipped on the elegant, balanced and delicious wines being poured. Allow yourself about an hour for wine tasting at Failla. You can also wander the grounds and peek into the wine caves which is always a treat. The day we were here was also a bottling day, so we got to experience that too.

The standouts for us on this visit were, the 08 Failla (Sonoma Coast) Pinot Noir $32, the Burgundian style 08 Failla (Sonoma Coast) Pinot Noir Occidental Ridge $60 and the 08 Failla (Napa) Syrah Phoenix Ranch $48. As we we’re getting ready to leave our tasting appointment, we also got a chance to meet Failla’s new winery dog. He was just a puppy then, so excited and full of energy. We can only imagine how big he is now and how much he must love being apart of the Failla Winery Family.

Cheers!
