Drink This!

Calling all Santa Barbara Pinot Noir lovers…have we found a gem for you! We’ve always been big fans of Foxen Winery wines and if you follow us, you know we love their Block 8 Bien Nacido Pinot Noir. It has been our tradition to drink the Block 8 every Thanksgiving with family and close friends. If we just want to have Foxen’s Pinot Noir on a more casual and less expensive level, we’ll pick up this Santa Maria Valley one. It has always been very good, but usually doesn’t quite posses the complexity of their single vineyard designates.

Well, we just had the newly released 2011 Foxen Santa Maria Pinot Noir and we are here to tell you this one does have all those single vineyard Foxen complex characteristics. Why? Because most of the grapes used in this bottle are from the Bien Nacido Block 8 vineyard, one of our absolute faves. Even in its youth, we think this is the best Santa Maria Valley Pinot Noir that Foxen has produced yet. It has that red raspberry fruit, floral aromas, subtle earthy notes, cola, salty ocean air and a lot of clove and cinnamon spice! This Pinot Noir brings us back to our many trips to the Foxen Canyon Wine Trail…the smell, the taste, the memories! We are also fans of pairing Pinot Noir with exotic Indian food and this one would pair perfectly. And of course…it is truly delicious simply just by itself!

Cheers!
