Santa Barbara, Ca.

Found just a few blocks from the beach in Santa Barbara, Whitcraft Winery is another place we have been enjoying wines for many years now. Owner Chris Whitcraft is a veteran when it comes to the Santa Barbara wine scene. He has been in the wine industry for over 30 years and has now passed the winemaking torch down to his son, Drake. They have a little different flavor profile from the other Santa Barbara wineries and that’s all due to their wine making philosophy, “Don’t mess with it!” They pretty much let the grapes and mother nature do all the work and let the expression of the vineyard’s terroir shine. These wines are never fined, filtered or pumped and very seldom do they even use electricity to bottle their wine. They keep it old school…even stomping the grapes by foot.

The winery itself is located in an industrial park building and there’s not too much going on inside the small “office space” tasting room. Boxed cases of wine to buy on the floor and a couple maps and pictures on the wall…that’s about it. This all becomes irrelevant because you’re here for the wine. What Whitcraft emphasizes here is small production Pinot Noir…but their Chardonnay and Syrah are just as delicious!

Don’t let the industrial location fool you. A tasting room doesn’t need to be all big and fancy to produce outstanding wines. We highly recommend stopping by Whitcraft Winery and giving these unique wines a whirl!

Cheers!
